Christmas. The wonderful time of the year in which the Western World (well the consumerist world) indulges itself in food and gifts. Sounds kind of negative doesn’t it? I know what your thinking. Come on Dr. J, no reason to be Mr. Scrooge just because it is another year you wont be getting those sideline super bowl tickets. But has our society, even some of the people who claim themselves as Christians get engorged with the chri$tma$ season. But the thing of the matter is it is not about the chri$tma$ season, it is about the CHRISTmas season. It is about realizing during the CHRISTmas season, we are to remember the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ (even though it is speculated he was born in the spring) it is the time when we celebrate the birth of the savior.
Now I am not out to make enemies. There’s nothing wrong with looking forward to giving some gifts, even getting some special is ok to look forward to. I know I’m looking forward to seeing family this Christmas and just hanging around the house. But what I can not over look, is the fact this is the day we celebrate the birth of our Lord Savior. The same Savior we are to love, worship and celebrate the ultimate gift he gave us when he died on the cross. We need to move away from this society in which we are about getting and buying expensive gifts and remember what is really important. Friends, family. Being thankful for what the Lord has given us. It may not be Thanksgiving, but
we have so much to be thankful for, even if there are others who are better off than you, because you are better off than others.
Now I am not trying to be a kill joy this season, but I just want to stress this enough. There are more important things than gifts this season. And this season, let it be this season, if you haven’t already, be the season you realize those things which are more important. The things which is really what makes Christmas so special.
Merry CHRISTmas and Happy New Year
