Brady Hoke andThe Future of Michigan Football

So the one thing Dr. J is not going to do is be a hypocrite. I am not going to sit here and tell you Brady Hoke was my first choice to be the coach of the University of Michigan’s football team. At first, I would of much rather have had a Harbaugh or a Les Miles to be the next coach. Being said however, I am excited about the things Brady Hoke is going to do for Michigan and I want to talk about some of those reasons and how I feel he has some real potential.

First let’s discuss Harbaugh. Jim Harbaugh’s dream was to coach in the NFL. He wanted to coach in the NFL. If he would of came to Michigan instead of going into the NFL, it would of just been a matter of time before he left Michigan to go and it could have been very well in the near future, which means very realistically, we do not know how long we would have had have had him for our head coach. Les Miles another Michigan man like Harbaugh has had some great success at LSU. It is not too surprising why he choose to stay at a school where he is already loved and is already proving to have success at. But the two people who I wanted to be the head coach obviously did not have the interest for the job.

In comes Brady Hoke. Although he did not play for Michigan, he did coach for Michigan under Lloyd Carr. Hoke is a Michigan man in that sense and unlike Rich Rodriguez, who after being fired donated all his Michigan stuff (my view he is just being bitter about being fired but it still went to a good cause), Hoke knows Michigan football. He knows the history, he knows the traditions, and he knows what Michigan fans value. He is not going to give the #1 jersey to someone on defense. He truly understands the importance of the rivalry games we have at Michigan. One of the biggest things is to be the head coach at Michigan is his dream job. Harbaugh’s dream was to coach in the NFL. Hoke now is in his dream job. The passion he has for Michigan football is outstanding. He loves the program and unlike a Harbaugh where we did not know how soon he was going to leave us for the NFL, Hoke is the coach who will stay at Michigan till he retires (or his fired). He has already convinced Denard Robinson at staying, and he is going to be able to bring in some great recruits.

It is important though as Michigan fans we realize a few things. Number one, we are not going to be the best team next year. We are going to have to allow Hoke the time he needs to actually have success. We were too impatient with Rich Rod. Hoke has some huge potential, it would be a shame if we got rid of him too soon because we were not patient enough to give him the chance to see what he can do. I know it concerns many people of his overall losing record, more so in the fact he has not really coached in any major school. Being said, Hoke will do some great things for Michigan football. He will be with Michigan football for a long time and we are going to see the man who is passionate about Michigan football, take the program to some very high levels. It will take a little time, but I am real excited about the future of Michigan Football under the leadership of Brady Hoke.
